A Sicamous driver had a sleepover at the RCMP station after an off-roading incident took out a street sign.

At approximately 1:45 a.m. on Jan. 8, police received a report that a vehicle had left the roundabout on Main Street and Riverside Avenue where it hit a street sign before coming to a rest on the lawn of Riverside Park near the public washroom.

"Police arrived on scene and located a Jeep with front end damage abandoned on the lawn of the park with a road sign sheared off," Sgt. Murray McNeil said in a media release. "Police located the driver walking on Main Street how was found to be impaired by alcohol."

Officers issued a 90-day driving prohibition to the driver and impounded the vehicle for 30 days, while the driver was taken to RCMP cells to sober up overnight "due to his level of intoxication."
