A driver who got their vehicle stuck in snow east of Penticton was saved last weekend by local search and rescue crews.
Penticton and District Search and Rescue (PENSAR) was tasked on Friday, Dec. 13, to assist an individual with a stuck vehicle in the Carmi area.
Contesting with poor cell phone service, the individual managed to contact their significant other, who then contacted the RCMP.
Two PENSAR vehicles and an additional seven members were then tasked to locate the individual, as snow continued to fall in the area.
"Based on the description of their surroundings, PENSAR was able to locate the individual," the volunteer-based group said in a social media post. "Upon arrival, a passerby had provided assistance and the individual was exiting the area with their vehicle."
Staffed by volunteers who respond from their homes whenever called, PENSAR is reminding the public to have their vehicles winter-ready.
"Always prepare for emergencies, and don't wait to call for help," the team urged.
Its rescue last Friday in the Carmi area marked the team's 52nd rescue of 2024.
