A man from Nakusp recently drove to Malakwa to purchase a utility trailer that he had seen advertised on the Facebook marketplace.

He had paid a $500 deposit to the seller electronically prior to viewing the trailer.

However, when he arrived at the agreed-upon address the elderly resident told the man the seller did not live there and that she didnot have a trailer for sale.

The man then realized that the ad had been removed and the account that posted the ad was closed.

RCMP is warning the public that paying a deposit to a stranger for an item posted online, site unseen is never advised.
