A 91Ѽ man potentially faces charges after falling asleep behind the wheel at the drive-thru window of a fast food restaurant in Rutland.

The 91Ѽ RCMP responded Dec. 15 at 1:50 a.m. to a report of an unknown male passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle at the window of a drive-thru located near the intersection of Hollywood Road and Highway 33.

Officers attended and found the man, and sole occupant of the GMC Sierra pickup truck, still passed out in the driver’s seat with the vehicles engine running.

The driver was not fully co-operative with police, he refused to identify himself and failed to follow police directions. He allegedly displayed notable signs of intoxication, believed to be by alcohol, and was taken safely into police custody.

“As a result, the officer entered into an impaired operation care and control investigation and provided the driver with a demand who was subsequently taken to the 91Ѽ RCMP Detachment where he provided breath samples almost twice the legal limit,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

The driver, a 25-year-old 91Ѽ man, faces potential charges. He was held in police custody overnight and is expected to appear in Court on a later date.

If you witnessed this incident and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to contact the 91Ѽ RCMP at 250-762-3300.
