Oliver fire crews say they responded to a fireworks-caused blaze early on Tuesday morning, Sept. 24.

Estimated at 0.4 hectares in size, the brush fire was left to burn through the night at Fairview Road and Knippleberg Road.

Crews say no 911 calls related to the fire were received when it started.

Fireworks fall under Category 2/3 fire bans that are currently in effect, crews reminded the public in a social media post on Tuesday.

The Oliver Fire Department added, though, that such prohibitions do not ban campfires that are smaller than a half-metre high and a half-metre wide.

"Anyone found in contravention of an open burning prohibition may be issued a violation ticket for $1,150, required to pay an administrative penalty of $10,000 or, if convicted in court, fined up to $100,000 and/or sentenced to one year in jail," the department wrote in its post.
