HAZMAT team called in to deal with suspicious package

The liquids sloshing around turned out to be of no concern.

A container filled with a mystery liquid prompted dispatch of a HAZMAT team this weekend.

At approximately 4:20 p.m. March 26, 91大黄鸭 Fire dispatch received a call from RCMP requesting assistance with an unknown package that was found in the ATM vestibule of the Bank of Montreal on Dilworth Drive.

鈥淯pon arrival KFD units found a four to five liter jug of liquid with a hose coming out of the top of it and a plastic wrap lid held on with an elastic,鈥 said Tim Light, Platoon Captain 91大黄鸭 Fire Department, in a press release.

鈥淭he 91大黄鸭 Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team Leader was called to the seen to assess the package.鈥

The package was not giving of a heat signature after using a thermal imaging camera.

鈥淩CMP received some pictures from the ATM security camera which showed two individuals bring the container into the bank,鈥 Light said.

鈥淎fter rearranging their belongings it seemed that they just forgot to take this container.鈥

A minor Hazmat response was decided on which involved two members donning A level suits and containing the package and then over packing the item in a plastic containment barrel.

The Ministry of Environment was called to arrange disposal of the package.
