A crash that closed Highway 3 for multiple hours on Jan. 6 was fatal, and icy road conditions likely contributed to the collision.
The Anarchist Mountain Fire Department and Osoyoos RCMP both responded to the call around 3:25 p.m. near Sasquath Trail east of Osoyoos.
Two vehicles had collided after the west-bound vehicle lost control and crossed into the path of the oncoming east-bound vehicle.
"Road conditions in the area at the time of the collision were extremely icy and the investigation to this point has indicated the icy conditions are the main cause of the first vehicle losing control," said Sgt. Jason Bayda, head of the Osoyoos RCMP detachment.
Both vehicles had a driver and passenger on board at the time of the crash, and the 58-year-old female passenger of the west-bound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 19-year-old passenger in the second vehicle suffered serious injuries.
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of all involved," said Bayda.
The highway was closed for about seven hours, with a detour opening and available via Caribou Way.
