Lower costs but better jobs and services 鈥� that was NDP leader John Horgan鈥檚 motto as he kicked off his party鈥檚 provincial election campaign in Surrey on Sunday.

鈥淭hree simple commitments: lower costs, better services and good jobs for the future,鈥� Horgan told a packed banquet hall.

It鈥檚 still two days before the election writ is officially dropped but Horgan didn鈥檛 waste any time attacking the BC Liberals track record on education, the environment and healthcare.

He took aim at the province鈥檚 healthcare system.

鈥淗ere we鈥檝e got hallway medicine emerging,鈥� said Horgan, citing the story of a senior who laid on a bed in the Eagle Ridge Hospital hallway for 36 hours.

Horgan also took on Premier Christy Clark鈥檚 recent promise that the Liberals would cap bridge tolls at $500 per year.

鈥淲e鈥檙e going to eliminate them. Zero dollars a year,鈥� said Horgan.

When challenged on how the NDP would pay for any expansion at the Delta-Richmond crossing, Horgan said it would be paid for like any other capital project.

鈥淵ou amortize that over a longer period of time.鈥�
