Bike-share program Dropbike was well-received in 91大黄鸭 last year. Now, the bikes鈥 return remains uncertain as Summer, as well as bike season, fast approaches.

The City of 91大黄鸭 is not without other bike-share possibilities though, as active transportation coordinator Matt Worona said they鈥檙e exploring more options for this year.

鈥淲e came with the recommendation to look at what multiple (bike-share) operators would look like,鈥 said Worona. 鈥淲e鈥檙e trying to open the door to more services, (Dropbike) said that they鈥檙e uncertain what that market may look like for them.鈥

Worona said that reviewing what the bike-share market looked like after a year was always the plan. The city wanted to learn from it and deliver something fulsome and work towards creating a competitive market.

He said that they鈥檙e at the finish line with a proposal to 91大黄鸭 council with updated bike-share programs.

鈥淚 think people are thinking that it鈥檚 likely a good thing that we鈥檙e trying to maximize value, expand the area, and open the door in a smart way,鈥 said Worona.

鈥淲e鈥檙e doing this in a smart, long-term and flexible fashion.鈥

With interest coming in from other bike-share organizations, including Lyft and Uber, as well as local 91大黄鸭 businesses, Worona said it鈥檚 just a matter of time before operators are opening up in 91大黄鸭.

鈥淚 think people like bike-share. Lots of different ways to see bike-share in 91大黄鸭, not sure how it鈥檚 going to shake out with the timeline.鈥

Once the proposal gets to 91大黄鸭 council, Worona expects an estimate of four to six weeks for operators to get established and operating.
