Over 80 drivers allegedly using an electronic device while driving were nabbed by Mounties last Friday.

"In approximately four and a half hours, officers issued a total of 64 fines, 46 of which were for the use of an electronic device while driving," said Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey, in a press release.

The remainder of the fines issued were for vehicle defects, failing to wear seat belts and not possessing a valid driver鈥檚 licence.

鈥淥ur traffic enforcement officers were surprised when, within a one hour period, they issued three distracted driving violation tickets, to three different drivers each operating a company vehicle and all of whom were employed by the same 91大黄鸭 based business," said O'Donaghey.

On Tuesday Nov.  22 enforcement officers with the RCMP Central Okanagan Traffic Services had also conducted enforcement which targeted distracted drivers using their cell phones. During a nearly three hour period officers handed out 36 violation tickets to drivers for the illegal use of an electronic device while behind the wheel.

鈥淭he fine for using an electronic device while driving remains at $368,鈥 said O鈥橠onaghey. 鈥淏y taking your attention off of the roadway for even just a moment you greatly increase the chance of being involved in a collision.鈥
