It really is a dog's world and the 91大黄鸭 Secondary School's Global Awareness Club is combining our loves of dogs and Halloween for a unique event this weekend.

The club is hosting a Halloween dog costume walk on Sunday at 3 p.m. beginning at the Mission Creek Dog Park behind the H20 Centre.

"My group of friends and I got together last year and put our god in costumes and went for a walk," said Juliet Watts, a Grade 12 student at KSS. "that was the inspiration for this. People really love doing things with their dogs and hopefully we will raise a lot of money to help dogs."

The event is raising funds for the 91大黄鸭-based Mary Ellen Humane Education Society's Shake a Paw program which brings vulnerable youth together with dogs who are in need of a home. A $5 donation will be accepted for dogs to be entered in a costume contest.

"We're bringing dogs out to raise money for other dogs and I think that's a good way to get people out, because of the charity aspect," said Watts.

The Global Awareness Club is a student run group that that has a long history of successful coffee houses, drive through breakfasts and barbecues at KSS. The Halloween dog walk is their inaugural effort to work with four-legged friends.

The Mary Ellen Humane Education Society鈥檚 Shake a Paw program is about enhancing the health of traumatized young people by learning life-skills while training rescue dogs. In six weeks, young people learn to teach shelter dogs to sit, make eye contact, to touch a held-out hand, and to respond when called.

A minimum $5 donation will register your dog in the costume contest. There are free treat bags for the first 75 dogs as well as prizes for the top dog costumes.
