Revelstoke Fire Rescue is promoting girl power as the department announced a "historic milestone" on Jan. 2 with its first female career firefighter.
Devon King, previously a volunteer member, completed additional training and is now taking on the role of Flex Firefighter and making history in being the first woman to do so with the Revy department.
"I'm super excited to move from volunteer to career firefighter, to see the different side of the fire department, learning the ins and outs of the daily operations and I've already responded to several emergency calls," King said of the promotion in a Facebook media release. "My first week has been a truly amazing experience."
Though she's not the only woman with the department, King is the first to climb the ladder and, judging from the congratulatory comments and support pouring in, the community is stoked.
