Masked men take off with whole ATM machine, then drop it

Police are investigating after suspects drop a stolen ATM on the side of the highway.

Police are investigating an unusually brazen, albeit botched, Valentine's Day theft of an ATM.

On Feb. 14 at 4:01 a.m., the 91大黄鸭 RCMP responded to a report of a break-in and theft from a gas station located in the 3600 block of Highway 97 North. Police have determined that at least two masked men, associated to an older van, forced the front glass doors of the business from their hinges before fleeing with the Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) taken from inside.

"The two suspects didn鈥檛 get far with the stolen bank machine, as police located and recovered the ATM on the highway. It appears as though the ATM had fallen out of the suspect vehicle approximately 50 feet west of the gas station," said Const. Jesse O'Donaghey in a press release.

"The suspect鈥檚 vehicle was described to police as a two tone dark coloured with silver older van. Although there was significant damage to the business, nothing else appeared to be taken."

Police continue to investigate and ask that anyone with information related to this crime contact the 91大黄鸭 RCMP at 250-762-3300. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
