Doctors in Lake Country are happy to see a new medical clinic, after the shortages in recent years.

鈥淲e are happy to see more physicians serving the medical needs of our community. We鈥檝e been short on doctors for many years now,鈥 said Dr. Paul Nickerson, spokesperson for Lake Country Family Practice. The clinic will remain open for both family practice and walk-ins.

A new set to open on Oceola Road in Lake Country has received more than 2,000 applications for patients in need of a family doctor.

Turtle Bay Medical Clinic is set to open April 3 and will be accepting patients at the opening.

A grand opening will be held April 1 for the building, starting at 9 a.m. on 801-11850 Oceola Rd.

鈥淥ur primary goal is to serve the Lake Country community who currently don鈥檛 have a doctor,鈥 said general manager of the clinic, Kiffer Walker, adding once the Lake Country community has been addressed, they will accept other patients from the surrounding areas.

For more information or to fill out an application email info@turtlebaymedical.ca

Four doctors have been hired so far, with the expectation they will eventually have six doctors. Walker said three other doctors from out of the province are also interested in the clinic.

Each doctor can accept around 1,000 to 2,500 patients, with a maximum of 50 patients per day, said Walker.

They expect to have around 4,000 regular patients sign up, said Walker. 鈥淭he doctors are suggested to schedule their day lightly to handle walk-ins,鈥 which will also be available.

Walk-ins will also be available.

On opening day, Walker expects to see a lineup.
