A Penticton man pleaded guilty on Thursday (April 11) to multiple charges related to an arrest in Princeton in 2023 just three days after he missed a separate trial date.
Amos James Atkins, born in 1990, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000, one count of a breach of probation and to obstructing a peace officer.
The pleas came on the day that Atkins was scheduled to go to trial for those charges along with additional charges breaching probation and a charge of possession of stolen property under $5,000.
The charges relate to an incident that occurred in Princeton nearly a year ago, on April 14, 2023.
Just three days prior to that incident, a warrant was issued for Atkins after he failed to show up for trial for charges of flight from police, driving without a licence, driving an uninsured vehicle or trailer, wilfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer and dangerous operation of a conveyance related to an incident in Oliver in 2022.
That case was resolved in December of 2023, with convictions recorded for the driving without a licence and obstruction charges.
Atkins’ Princeton case had a co-accused on the possession of stolen property charges. Daniel Leslie Burgess pleaded guilty to the charge of possession over $5,000 in September of 2023, and received 53 day jail sentence along with a two-year probation order according to court records.
Sentencing for Atkins will be scheduled for a later, currently unspecified date.
