Penticton looks into selling naming rights for SOEC

The city will be on the lookout for an official sponsor for the home of the Vees

South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton.

Signage and other materials outside what's currently called the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) could look different in 2025.

Penticton is on the hunt for an official sponsor of the SOEC, after city council voted on Sept. 10 to direct staff to sell the naming rights for the venue.

鈥淚ssuing a request for proposal for the naming rights of the (SOEC) represents a strategic opportunity to generate revenue and forge long-term partnerships that align with the future vision of the area,鈥 said Kelsey Johnson, the city鈥檚 director of community services.

City officials say the sponsorship deal could range in length from five to 20 years, beginning sometime in 2025. The suggested minimum bid requirement would be set at $150,000 per year for a term of up to 10 years, they added.

The SOEC opened in September 2008 and has since hosted high-profile concerts and shows. It is also home to the BCHL's Penticton Vees.

鈥淲e have seen tremendous growth and success over the last couple of years, as we attract marquee events to the SOEC, and this is a chance to showcase our vision for the future and build stronger partnerships," Johnson said.

According to the city, whoever acquires the SOEC's naming rights would be entitled to several perks, including:

鈥 Company name on exterior double-sided digital marquee signage on Highway 97

鈥 Placement on the exterior of the facility, near the main entrance and fronting Highway 97

鈥 Company name on facility name/logo added throughout various signage within the building, bathroom posters, upcoming event posters and centre ice around the Penticton Vees logo

鈥 Complex-wide parking lot signage

鈥淭he naming rights offer a unique opportunity for sponsorship in a fast-growing region and provides support for future growth," Johnson added.

The city is expected to enter into a Facility Naming Rights Agreement with the successful proponent sometime in 2025.

Unlike Penticton, arenas across the Okanagan are currently engaged in such partnerships, including 91大黄鸭 (Prospera Place), West 91大黄鸭 (Royal LePage Place) and Vernon (Kal Tire Place).
