Police say three suspects were arrested as part of a break-and-enter investigation that led to a Salmon Arm residence on 27th Avenue SE.

In the early morning hours of Thursday, April 4, Chase RCMP received a report of a break and enter at a business in the 1200 block of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Salmon Arm officers witnessed a vehicle matching the description travelling at a high rate of speed, and located the truck at a residence in the 400 block of 27th Street SE.

鈥淧olice conducted call outs, but despite police efforts the occupants of the residence did not exit,鈥 said Munn. 鈥淭he residence was secured while police obtained a search warrant and the Emergency Response Team was called out to assist.

鈥淥ut of an abundance of caution, the local school was placed on a hold and secure until the suspects could be safely taken into custody.鈥

Munn said the suspects were taken into custody around 10:30 a.m.

鈥淧olice remain in the area as the investigation remains ongoing; however, there is no ongoing risk to the public,鈥 said Munn.

On Thursday morning, April 4, Shuswap Middle School principal Scott Anderson issued a notice to parents/guardians stating that around 8:30 a.m., RCMP directed the school to go into hold and secure as a precautionary measure, while police deal with a situation in proximity of the school grounds.

During a hold and secure, exterior doors of the school are secured while normal activities continue inside.

鈥淭here is no immediate threat to students or staff,鈥 said Anderson.

Before 8:30 a.m., several police cruisers were situated off of Okanagan Avenue on 27th Street SE.

The Observer has contacted the RCMP and will provide more information as it becomes available.

Anderson said parents/guardians will be notified when the hold and secure is released.

鈥淲e will always take whatever precaution is necessary to ensure the safety of our students and staff,鈥 said Anderson. 鈥淎s always, please call me at the school if you have questions or concerns.鈥
