Don't get deflated falling for the latest fake ad targeting a popular local event.

The Vernon Winter Carnival advises that a balloon ride scam is circulating on social media.

Carnival does not book balloon rides, which are only done through , and they will never request payments through Facebook Messenger or from personal email addresses.

"It seems Winter Carnival is the target of a few scams happening this year," the society sighs.

"About a month ago it was brought to our attention that there is someone approaching food trucks and vendors in our community claiming to be part of Vernon Winter Carnival and asking for you to fill out a google form and send $120/day to register as a vendor or food truck for all 10 days of Carnival."

The society says this is not anyone involved with Carnival and any communication regarding vendors or food trucks or any events associated with Carnival will come from the organization directly.

"Not from someone's personal email address. Please do not send anyone money. They are not affiliated in any way with Vernon Winter Carnival."

If ever in doubt, contact Carnival directly at 250-545-2236.
