A fundraising event has brought in more than $630,000 for cancer care in the South Okanagan and Similkameen.

The fourth annual Giving Tuesday Campaign, organized by the South Okanagan Medical Foundation, was held through November. This year, the campaign was to help with the foundation鈥檚 $10 million oncology campaign.

The fundraiser was launched in 2021 and inspired by Gerry Turchak of Brutus Truck Bodies by Nor-Mar Industries Ltd.

Turchak pledged to match donor contributions to motivate the community in the campaign.

This year鈥檚 campaign featured donation matching by Brutus Truck Bodies up to $75,000.

More than $630,000 was raised, with more contributions anticipated when postal delays are resolved.

鈥淭his year鈥檚 Giving Tuesday campaign exemplifies the incredible power of community collaboration,鈥 said Ian Lindsay, CEO of the medical foundation.

鈥淕erry Turchak鈥檚 generosity and vision have inspired others to step forward, helping us make significant strides in advancing healthcare for everyone in the South Okanagan Similkameen. Together, we are building a healthier future for our region.鈥

The medical foundation has other fundraisers as well. The foundation recently launched the 19th annual Tree of Dreams campaign.
