UPDATE:

A 31-year-old Oliver man was arrested after an hours-long standoff on Sunday. RCMP said the large police presence was because it involved intimate partner violence and a firearm.

On Feb. 11, around 3 p.m., Oliver RCMP responded to a residence on Co-Op Avenue.

The female victim was able to leave the home, while the male suspect remained inside, the RCMP said in a press release.

Given the risk posed to officers and the public, the Southeast District鈥檚 Emergency Response Team (SED ERT) was deployed , and were successful in safely apprehending the man a few hours later.

The 31-year-old is being held for a bail hearing, with police recommending charges related to pointing a firearm and assault.

鈥淎s the investigation continues, officers will remain at the residence this morning (Monday),鈥 said Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson.
