A Salmon Arm business evacuated staff and customers Monday afternoon in response to a threat to public safety.
The threat was reported to police by management at the Salmon Arm Walmart on Dec. 18.
Staff Sgt. Scott West said the store took precautionary measures to ensure the safety of patrons and staff as police were arriving. After the building was cleared, store management and RCMP officers conducted a comprehensive sweep of the building.
After the sweeps were completed, West said it was learned the threat was a week old.
鈥淎ll parties and specialized resources in the RCMP were satisfied that normal operations should resume at the store,鈥 said West, adding the store returned to normal operations just after 4:30 p.m.

Walmart in Salmon Arm was cordoned off by RCMP in response to threats made against the store.
Employees and shoppers were evacuated from the building and those in the area were being turned away from 2991A 10 Avenue South West.
Multiple RCMP vehicles were on site about 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18.
It was unclear what threats if any were made.
