ORIGINAL June 14:
Police in Vernon have cordoned off a stretch of 31st Street after a potential explosive device was found Wednesday afternoon.
RCMP and Vernon Fire Rescue Services are currently on scene and waiting for experts to arrive to determine what the device is.
31st Street is currently blocked off between 45th Avenue and 47th Avenue.
Police responded to the area around 3:30 p.m. June 14.
The area will remain cordoned off until officers with the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit have safely examined, and dealt with the item if necessary,
said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. We are urging members of the public to avoid the area as we await the arrival of our EDU Team at the scene later this evening.
It’s the second time this week that police have investigated a suspicious device in Vernon, after Justice Park was taped off on Monday while the Explosive Disposal Unit dealt with an unknown device. The scene was cleared by Tuesday morning.
