Another Greater Victoria resident has stepped forward to detail the theft of gas from a vehicle after a hole was drilled in their tank.

Black Press Media posted a story about a recent spate of gas thefts from vehicles, with drivers waking up to find empty tanks. (A link to the story is posted below.)

Robin contacted Black Press Media to say a similar thing happened to her on the West Shore, only the thief was even more brazen. (Black Press Media has agreed to not use her last name as she is a victim of crime.)

The incident happened on Dec. 27 in the parking lot of Victoria General Hospital in View Royal. Robin was walking to her vehicle at around 1 a.m. when she “interrupted someone beside my truck.”

“So they sped off, driving right towards me, flashing their high beams at me and my daughter in a stroller, and I could see their jerry cans in the trunk,” Robin said. “I got to the truck and could smell that (the) gas. I called the non-emergency police number and hospital security. Had to make a police statement and start an ICBC claim.”

Robin said she was stuck with a vehicle that had no gas and so she had to call BCAA – that’s when another discovery was made.

“At first I thought they had siphoned the gas, but then as BCAA was filling it with gas, we realized the gasoline was flowing out the tank. The thief drilled a hole into the gas tank,” she said. “So this thief was at the hospital in the middle of the night victimizing sick people at the hospital. Low of the low.
