West 91´ó»ÆѼ council doesn’t like a proposal to move curbside garbage pick-up in the Central Okanagan to every second week from the current once a week.

During a presentation from the Regional District of Central Okanagan’s manager of environmental services Peter Rotheisler about the regional Solid Waste Management Plan, council made it clear the proposal is a non-starter as far as it is concerned.

Councillors said such a move would have a number of negative consequences, including environmental and health. And it would be unfair to larger families.

The move to bi-weekly garbage pick-up—as well as weekly instead of bi-weekly recycling pick-up—were proposed elements in the update provided to council.

In addition to not liking the proposed change, council also expressed concern with the make-up of the 30-member committee reviewing solid waste management in the Central Okanagan. Mayor Doug Findlater said it appeared to be made up of mostly IHA bureaucrats, with few regular residents on board.
