Worn tires and winter conditions contributed to a two-vehicle collision that rendered both inoperable.

During the heavy, wet snowfall on Dec. 18, Sicamous RCMP responded to the crash that occurred at 8:30 a.m. near the Last Spike on Highway. The investigation determined that a Kia headed west hit an eastbound Mazda pickup in a sideswipe, resulting in damage to the driver's side of both. The vehicles were towed from the scene as the impact had left both inoperable. 

"Road conditions were not ideal at the time; however, the tires of both affected vehicles were just above the minimum required tread depth which would have been a factor in the collision," Sgt. Murray McNeil said in a media release, and reminded drivers to ensure they have mud and snow rated tires with good tread for their safety on the roads this winter.

The vehicles were the only casualties of the incident as no serious injuries were sustained and the highway remained open.
