Excitement could be felt throughout downtown 91大黄鸭 on Friday, the first night of the 2025 Montana's Brier with more than 4,000 spectators filling Prospera Place.
Team Canada, led by Brad Gushue, looked to win their fourth straight Brier and dominated to start the tournament beating Team Newfoundland and Labrador 9-2 in eight ends.
"I thought our team has really good control of the ice," said Gushue after the game. He added his team was "firing on all cylinders" throughout the night.
Gushue said it was a great crowd for night one of the annual event, adding the acoustics in Prospera Place created incredible sound making it harder to hear his teammates.
After being down 4-0 early, Team BC battled back and was tied at five going into the 10th end against Team Manitoba - Carruthers. Despite the hometown crowd cheering them on, Team BC wasn't able to hold on as Team Manitoba - Curruthers won in the final end, 6-5.
With a huge three points in the ninth end, Team Manitoba - Dunstone was able to put their game away against Team Alberta - Koe, winning 6-2.
The match-up between Team Northern Ontario and Team New Brunswick was the only game of the next that needed to go to an extra 11th end. Team New Brunswick scored a point in both the ninth and 10th end to force the extra frame. But, it was Team Northern Ontario who came out with the win on the final shot of the game, to start the tournament 1-0.
Action continues on Saturday with four games at 1:30 p.m. and another four at 6:30 p.m. The full schedule can be found on the Curling Canada .
