First ever day and night T20 Cricket match hosted in Okanagan

Games played all day from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. under the lights

The Okanagan Valley Cricket Club made local sporting history.

The club successfully hosted the first-ever day and night T20 Cricket Championship on Sunday, April 13.

Played across the Glenmore and Parkinson's cricket grounds in 91大黄鸭, games ran from 8:30 a.m. until 11 p.m.

Six teams competed: Okanagan Valley Cricket Club, Okanagan Lions, Vernon Strikers Cricket Club, VCL Cricket Club, Salmon Arm Cricket Club, and North Okanagan Cricket Club.

T20 is a fast-paced form of cricket, where each team has one chance to bat, restricted to a maximum of 20 overs. An over is six legal cricket deliveries bowled from one end of the pitch to another. 

After a full day of cricket action, the final match under the lights featured an all-Vernon affair between the Vernon Strikers Cricket Club and the VCL Cricket Club in a closely contested battle at Glenmore. 

Batting first, VCL posted a 163/8 score in 20 overs. In response, the Strikers reached 116/2 in 14 overs, before the game was halted due to a power outage. 

In order to decide a winner, the  was used, and the Strikers were deemed a winner by 12 runs. 

Individuals honours went to Pardeep Tatla from the Strikers as best batsman with 217 runs in three innings. Amandeep Khangura from the Strikers was named the best bowler with seven wickets taken while Vikramjeet Singh from VCL was selected as the man of the series for his all-around performance. 

"Special appreciation goes to match officials Frank Rainbird and Harry Grewal for their dedication and professionalism throughout the day," said president Harshana Panthiyage of the Okanagan Valley Cricket Club, who also credited Nirmal Hettiarachchi with organizing. "This event marked a significant milestone for cricket in the Okanagan and set the tone for future league competitions in the region."
