Former Penticton Vees star Mike Reilly underwent a heart procedure this week following a concussion he suffered while playing for the NHL's New York Islanders.

Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello says the 31-year-old, who played for the Vees during the team's record-breaking 2011-2012 campaign, had the procedure on Tuesday, Nov. 19, to address a preexisting, but previously undiscovered, condition.

According to the NHL club, the issue was found during routine tests after Reilly suffered a concussion on Nov. 1, in a game against the Buffalo Sabres.

Reilly has been cleared from his concussion and will be sidelined indefinitely from the Islanders, the team said via Lamoriello on social media.

The Chicago-born defenceman recorded 83 points in 51 career games with the Vees.

It was during Reilly's lone BCHL season when Penticton won 42 games in a row, en route to 54-4-0-2 regular-season record and eventual national championship. He also played alongside his twin brothers, Ryan and Connor, in the South Okanagan city.

Reilly has played parts of 13 NHL seasons after he was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL draft.
