Donning specialty jerseys to honour the Rutland neighbourhood, the 91´ó»ÆѼ Chiefs doubled up the KIJHL's best, the Princeton Posse, 4-2 on Friday night.
As the teams faced off on Jan. 24, the Chiefs were wearing jerseys to honour the Rutland Voodoos, the former team name for both the secondary and middle schools in the area.
The Posse opened the scoring when Jonathan Ward scored his first goal of the season 4:33 into the game, assisted by Tyson Horiachka and Matthew Langdon.
Chiefs' Owen Ivanov responded by reaching double digits, scoring his 10th goal of the year. The game came at the 13:37 mark, on the power play, assisted by Luke Rishaug and Owen Miller.
In the second period, Rishaug added a power play goal of his own to give 91´ó»ÆѼ the lead, assisted by Ivanov and Ethan King.
The Ivanov show continued in the third period as he added two more assists on goals from Aiden Morcom and Miller to make it 4-1, and giving Ivanov a four-point night. Morcom's goal came shorthanded at the 6:40 mark while Miller scored at 12:17.
Justice Loewen added his 18th goal of the season late in the game but that's as close as Princeton would come.
Jedd Stybel made 26 saves in the win for the Chiefs while Blake Sittler made 29 saves in the loss for the Posse.
With the win, 91´ó»ÆѼ leapfrogged Osoyoos in the standings and is out of the bottom of the Bill Ohlhausen Division. They are now 13-17-1-3 on the season. Meanwhile, Princeton still remains at the top of the division at 26-6-3-1 but is tied points-wise with Revelstoke at 56.
