PHOTOS: Rail jam and sledding hill taking shape for Penticton鈥檚 Frost Fest

Snow for sled hill brought in from Apex Mountain but Mother Nature also helping

On Tuesday, Apex Mountain trucked in a bunch of snow and built the kids鈥 sledding hill for the upcoming winter carnival at Gyro Park, but Mother Nature has helped out too for Penticton鈥檚 first-ever Frost Fest on Jan. 20.

The sledding hill is part of this Saturday鈥檚 activities coming to the park, which will look a lot like a winter wonderland. Kids can sled from the stage of the bandshell down the person-made snow hill.

On top of the sledding hill, crews from the city, Penticton鈥檚 Wildstone Construction and the Apex Freestyle Team are busy working in blizzard-like conditions to build the 100-foot rail jam.

Expert-level skiers and snowboarders will be showing off their skills down the railing on Saturday.

鈥淣ext Saturday, Penticton will be the place to be, with everyone from BCHL hockey players and NHL alumni to pro skiers and boarders showing off their skills at Gyro Park,鈥 says Jeff Plant, the city鈥檚 sport and event supervisor.

The 鈥渄owntown throwdown鈥 鈥 set for 5 p.m. 鈥 will feature multiple challenges and up to $6,000 in cash prizes.

It鈥檚 all part of the Downtown Throwdown Rail Jam and Frost Fest where there will be a DJ, and food trucks. HaHaHa Kidz Fest will also be there with activities.

The festival coincides with the All-Star Weekend events right beside Gyro Park at the outdoor rink.
