Princeton, Revelstoke face off in hockey playoff action

Two junior hockey teams have dominated Bill Ohlhausen Division in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League

The top two teams in the Bill Ohlhausen Division of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League are competing in the division finals.

At present, the best-of-seven series is tied, with the Princeton Posse and Revelstoke Grizzlies each recording one win.

The first two games of this series were played at the Princeton and District Arena. On March 14, the Posse earned a 3-0 shutout against the Grizzlies.

After a scoreless first period, Grady Sterling-Ponech scored on a power play for the Posse at 10:23 in the second period. Will Bell and Tyson Horiachka assisted.

In the third period, Justice Loewen scored a power play goal for the Posse at 1:25, assisted by Sterling-Oonech.

Will Bell added a goal at 8:56, assisted by Brayden Sumner and Kayne Van Metre.

The following evening, the Grizzlies played to a 3-2 win.

The Posse opened scoring with a pair of goals in the first period.

Tyson Horiachka scored at 2:58, assisted by Alex Westlund. He added another goal at 8:17, this one assisted by Cole King.

The Grizzlies responded with a goal by Dayton Abbott at 10:12, assisted by Jake Neufeld and Daniel Wittenberg.

In the third period, Connor Shymoniak scored for the Grizzlies at 7:04, assisted by Jacob Smith, to tie the game.

Another Grizzlies goal, at 12:55, decided the game. This was scored by Austin Wooley with assists by Kesler Fyfe and Jaylen Forsyth.

In the first round of playoff action, the top-ranked Princeton Posse defeated the fourth-place Sicamous Eagles in five games.

The second-place Revelstoke Grizzlies defeated the third-place Merritt Centennials in five games.

In regular season play, the Posse had 33 wins, seven losses, three overtime losses and one shootout loss, for a total of 70 points. The Grizzlies had 32 wins, seven losses, one overtime loss and shootout losses for a total of 69 points.

The next two games in the best-of-seven series will held at the Revelstoke Forum on March 18 and 19. After that, a game will be held at the Princeton and District Arena on Friday, March 21, beginning at 7 p.m.

Additional games, if required, are scheduled for Saturday, March 22 at the Revelstoke Forum and Monday, March 24 at the Princeton and District Arena, with both games beginning at 7 p.m.
