Skiers and snowboarders itching to run the rails this year can look forward to custom-built courses in a new location for this season of Revelstoke's freestyle rail jam event.
Taking place for the first year in Revelstoke Mountain Resort's Terrain Park, the Rail Jam Series returns this Sunday, Jan. 12, promising prizes to the top three tricksters in each of the male and female ski and snowboard categories.
Judges will be influenced by "standout tricks, creativity, and all-around hype," the resort said in a . Warm-up for athletes opens at 10 a.m., with a riders' meeting at 10:45 a.m. and contestants twisting and turning through the courses between 11:15 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. in a jam-session format. Bibs are required and spectators are encouraged.
Terrain Park is a progressive-level snow sport park, located beneath the Stoke Chair and featuring rails, boxes and medium-to-large jumps.
Contestants and spectators can look forward to an awards ceremony atop the gondola at 12:45 p.m. and a DJ flipping tracks at the Mackenzie Outpost until 2:30 p.m.
To give the rail jam course a whirl, advance registration is recommended as the cap is "50 participants for each occurrence." Subject to availability, athletes can still sign up in person from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on the day of the event, with a registration table available Sunday morning at the top of Terrain Park.
Following this Sunday, skiers and snowboarders can stay tuned for subsequent rail jam event days on Sunday, Feb. 9, and Sunday, March 23.
A registration fee of $20 must be paid in cash before each event day.
