The 91大黄鸭 Rockets overcame an early two-goal deficit to defeat the Tri-City Americans 4-2 Saturday in WHL action at Prospera Place.
With their fourth straight, the Rockets (40-21- 5-0) pulled three points ahead of the Kamloops Blazer for second spot in the BC Division, and remained four back of the Prince George Cougars for top spot.
The Americans opened the scoring at 13:08 of the first as Jordin Topping, brother of Rockets Kyle Topping, beat Brodan Salmond on a turnover in front of the Rockets net. Then Brett Leason got the Americans up 2-0 and they took that lead into the second period.
The Rockets elected to make a goaltender change and Michael Herringer started the 2nd period for 91大黄鸭. The Rockets poured on the offence all period but the Americans goaltender Evan Sarthou seemed unbeatable until
Dillon Dube walked out of the corner and ripped a shot just under the bar to get 91大黄鸭 on the board. The Rockets were outshooting Tri-City 37-17 after 40 minutes but the score was 2-1 Tri-City heading into the third period.
The Rockets came out strong in the third. Reid Gardiner shoveled home a scramble play in front of the Tri-City net for his 14th of the season and 250th career WHL point. Then Nolan Foote sniped his 16th of the season to pull the Rockets ahead 3-2. Dillon Dube scored his 2nd of the night on the empty net and the Rockets complete the comeback for a 4-2 victory.
Michael Herringer collects the win improving to 29-14-3-0 on the year stopping all 15 shots he faced. The Rockets outshot the Americans 43-24.
91大黄鸭 is back in action on Tuesday night when they host the Victoria Royals for a B.C. division battle on home ice.
