A Vernon local has made a name for himself on the national football scene and will have a chance to showcase his skills in May.
Brady Szeman, an offensive lineman for the University of Calgary Dinos, has been selected to play in the 2025 East-West Bowl, which will be hosted on the University of Waterloo campus in Ontario.
The East-West Bowl showcases top university players entering their last season of U Sports play. The players selected will represent a large portion of the 2026 CFL Draft class.
Szeman has been the starting centre for the Dinos for the past three seasons and played on the Vernon Secondary School (VSS) Panthers in high school, winning the 2018 and 2019 B.C. AA High School Championship.
The six-foot-two-inch-tall, 270-pound Szeman earned All-District honours in his senior season at VSS and was a British Columbia AA all-star in 2019. He was also named Most Outstanding Lineman in the Subway Bowl Final.
"Brayden is a quality senior and wants to elevate his game personally," said offensive line coach Pat Sheahan. "He is a committed and loyal player to the program."
Kickoff for their game is tabbed for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10.
