Alexanne Lepage isn't even through her second full season of university swimming, and she has already lost track of the amount of medals accumulated.

Lepage, who is just 19-years-old, has won 38 gold medals, including four at the recent Canada West Swimming Championships, hosted in Vancouver, Nov. 22-25. 

Her dominance in the pool has been a welcome sight for her University of Calgary Dinos team, as the Albertan school finished second overall at the Canada West championships, behind the UBC Thunderbirds.

"Being in my second year has allowed me to be a little bit more on top of things," Lepage told The Morning Star. "I am more settled now (in Calgary) which has really helped my level as an athlete."

As a rookie in the 2023-24 campaign, Lepage won numerous awards, including the U Sports Rookie of the Year and an academic All- Canadian. At nationals, the Vernon local won seven medals, including golds in the 200-metre breaststroke and 400 m individual medley. 

For her next major tournament, a trip to Budapest, Hungary, is in the cards. She will be representing Canada at the World Short Course World Championships from Dec. 10 to 15.

"I think it'll be great," Lepage said. "It is my first senior national team, so I am really excited. I am going with a good team as well which is helpful."

Following the championships, Lepage will have a brief reprieve from the pool before the Canada West season starts up again in late January. The season will culminate at the U Sports Championships in March.

"I have been training really hard this year," she said. "So I am hoping to take it day by day and keep improving."
