Users can load their mobile ONECard onto their smartphone and smartwatch.

UVic is now the first post-secondary school in B.C. to offer students contactless, digital ID cards.

"Post-secondary students in today鈥檚 world expect a mobile-first experience when it comes to buying goods and accessing services on campus," Jim Forbes, UVic's senior director of campus engagement, said in a news release. "We鈥檙e excited to be able to provide this technology to modernize and enhance day-to-day transactions.鈥

Mobile ONECard users can use their smartphone or smartwatch 鈥 available on Apple and Android devices 鈥 to buy food on campus, borrow library books, access the gym and much more. Staff and faculty will also have access to the technology.

"Getting food and going to the gym with just my phone has only made my campus life more convenient," Simrit Grewal, an undergraduate UVic student, said in the release. "I appreciate that I can see my ONECard Flex funds directly on the digital card, and I now have one less thing I need to keep track of."

UVic will continue to accept physical ONECards, which it still requires for exam identification.
