Though the Shuswap didn鈥檛 have a white Christmas, the Larch Hills Lantern Ski is still a go for Dec. 28.
The cross country skiing area outside of Salmon Arm has enough snow to host the annual event, with the Dec. 27 trail report announcing a few flurries providing additional powder on Thursday morning.
鈥淲ith the non-typical weather we are receiving, the grooming team has been working very hard to keep the trails in good shape,鈥 the report reads. 鈥淪kiers continue to report that conditions are still providing an enjoyable experience.鈥
The Lantern Ski will take place on Thursday, Dec. 28 from 5 to 8:30 p.m., with Environment Canada calling for a chance of flurries that morning. Skiers can choose between one, five or six kilometre routes that will be lit by the glow of kerosene lanterns along the trails. Participants are reminded to bring a mug for hot chocolate in the chalet afterwards, and some Christmas baking to share.
Entry to the event is by donation, with half the proceeds going to Salmon Arm food banks.
Any Larch Hills Nordic Society members that want to volunteer to help can contact Kerry Miller at millerk@millerinc.ca.
