While each shone individually, Dancing with the Shuswap Stars participants were on equal footing when they braved the spotlight to raise funds for hospice.
The SASCU Recreation Centre auditorium was once again packed for the annual fundraiser for the Shuswap Hospice Society fundraiser, which took place Saturday night, Nov 18. Modelled on the popular Dancing with the Stars TV show, local dancers volunteered their time to perform a routine for a sell-out crowd of 450 people.
In advance of the event and throughout, people were able to vote for and support their favourite dancers through the purchase of $5 stars. Overall People’s Choice winners are based on a combination of popular vote and judges scores. There are two categories: Rookie, involving couples who have never danced at the event, and Pro-Am All-Stars, where past participants are paired with professional instructors from City Dance in Vernon.
This year’s winners were as follows:
• Rookies, Overall People’s Choice: Justin and Renee Brien;
• Rookies, Judges’ Choice (highest scores from the dance judges): Cappi and Jack Bowers;
• Pro-Am All-Star, Overall People’s Choice: Ian Gray with City Dance Co-owner Heather Stranks;
• Pro-Am All-Star, Judges’ Choice: Bonnie Vandevosse and instructor Orlando Robertson.
More information will be released when funds raised are tallied.
