A group of eager young students met at Salmon Arm鈥檚 Fire Hall 2 where they picked up some very basic training followed by certificates recognizing them as fire chiefs for a day.
The students were selected by local schools to attend the annual educational Fire Chief for a Day event hosted by the Salmon Arm Fire Department. At Hall 2 at noon on Thursday, Oct. 12, Salmon Arm Fire Department Lt. Tyler Stevenson, Fire Chief Brad Shirley and firefighter Nigel Watts showed the students around the hall, helped them try on turnout gear, instructed them on how to operate fire extinguishers, let them try shooting at targets with a fire hose and took them for a lift in the basket of a ladder truck.
After the training and activities, the students received their certificates as well as lunch from Panago.
