The Naramata Polar Bear Fire Plunge into the icy waters of Okanagan Lake is set to return on Jan. 1 2024 and registration is now open.

The first plunge in 2023 saw hundreds show up to Centre Beach in Naramata to take the icy dip, and help raise over $1,000 for the Naramata Fire Fighters Society.

The dip in Naramata last New Year鈥檚 Day was the first organized event in the Penticton area. The annual Summerland Kinsmen Polar Bear Dip has been going for 37 years and sees hundreds take the plunge. There is also a plunge in Osoyoos.

There are no organized Polar Bear dips in Penticton despite having two lakes on either side of the community.

Registration for the Naramata plunge is open on the event鈥檚 new website at .

Donations from the event will once again go to support the Naramata Volunteer Fire Department through their society.

The plunge will take place on New Year鈥檚 Day at 1 p.m. in Naramata, and afterwards participants are invited to warm up around the fire pits with complementary hot chocolate.

There will also be music at the upcoming event.
