Great Scott, it鈥檚 almost Robbie Burns Day and the Sicamous Legion and Shuswap Pipes 鈥榥 Drums band have a celebration planned for the legendary bard.
The annual event honours the Scottish poet鈥檚 Jan. 25, 1759 birthday, and a party it will be with a dinner, dance, bagpipes and more.
The event will feature a traditional Scottish dinner, including the dubious haggis, a traditional concoction of minced organs boiled in a sheep鈥檚 stomach. There will also be roast beef, neeps and tatties (turnips and potatoes) and Scotch whisky to help with the haggis course.
The Pipes 鈥榥 Drums will provide an authentic soundtrack for the evening, which will include the traditional Burns poems Address to a Haggis, Toast to the Lassies, Toast to the Laddies and a wee bit of the bard鈥檚 history. A silent auction will have a variety of items to bid on, in addition to a raffle, free draw and fun game of Heads or Tails with the winner taking away a prized bottle of Scotch. Following those shenanigans, there will be a dance featuring Julie and the Finn Riders.
The event will take place a couple of days after Burns鈥 actual birthday, on Saturday, Jan. 27, with the doors open at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 and the dance at 8. Tickets are $40 each and can be purchased at the Sicamous Legion, or by emailing the pipe band at shuswappnd@gmail.com.
鈥淒on鈥檛 wait as we are expecting a sellout crowd,鈥 Pipes 鈥榥 Drums member Tom Skinner said in a press release, adding that this is their largest fundraiser of the year.
