Poetry has long been a powerful medium for self-expression and connection.

In an effort to provide a space for the queer community to explore and articulate their unique experiences, Vernon and District Immigrant and Community Service Society (VDICSS) presents a poetry workshop dedicated to fostering creativity, self-discovery, and engagement centering 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, starting Jan. 11

Led by local poet Michelle Doege, and funded by the Government of Canada, the workshops aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment for participants to delve into their emotional selves.

Through the art of poetry, individuals will have the opportunity to share their profound experiences to not only transform themselves, but also, that will resonate with others in the community.

鈥淚t is important in these times for us to listen to and learn from one another,鈥 said Doege. 鈥淧oems written by queer community offer a window into our worlds for others to peer into and hold the power for all of us to challenge norms, celebrate diversity, and foster a deeper sense of unity.鈥

Blending self-reflection and creativity, these workshops aspire to create a space where voices can flourish and contribute to the vibrant fabric of our community life.

Whether you are an experienced poet or someone wanting to explore the world of verse for the first time, all 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals are welcome to join.
