Action at the Penticton Speedway on Friday night has been cancelled due to inclement weather.
Day one of the Winged and Wingless Sprints event will not proceed due to heavy rain and unfavourable track conditions, representatives from both the track and racing series announced Friday afternoon, June 9.
鈥淯nfortunately, mother nature is not on our side today, and we wanted to make this decision before our fans made the trip to the speedway,鈥 said Rob Leighton from the National Sprint Tour. 鈥淚t is essential that we avoid having them sit in the rain while we make any necessary determinations. Our primary objective is to act in the best interests of our fans and the racers.鈥
The Sprint Series event was set for both June 9 and June 10.
Races on Saturday are currently scheduled to proceed, the speedway has confirmed.
鈥淲eather plays such a big role in our events, and unfortunately, tonight it is too wet for the Sprint Cars to race,鈥 said Jennifer Metituk, spokesperson for the Penticton Speedway. 鈥淭hankfully, we have Day 2 on Saturday, and we look forward to providing an exceptional racing experience for all attendees.鈥
All current ticket holders for Friday will be automatically refunded, an announcement from the speedway reads.
鈥淎s weather conditions are unpredictable, the event management team will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates regarding any changes or potential adjustments to the schedule.鈥
Friday鈥檚 announcement marks the third time this season the Penticton Speedway has had to cancel events or alter its schedule due to inclement weather, with the most recent coming on May 21.
