The Eagle Valley Arts Council (EVAC) is weaving together a commemorative community art project to celebrate the Red Barn's 100th year in 2026.

At the April 23 Committee of the Whole meeting, EVAC vice president Tammy Brown presented the project to council and received unanimous support.

To celebrate the Red Barn's milestone, Brown explained they want to create a community mural titled Windows Through Time, that will be composed of individually painted tiles representing a community member's memory or vision of the building.

“When assembled, the tiles will form a large image of the barn itself, and it will symbolize a century of shared stories and creative spirit," she said. "The mural will incorporate visual elements that will speak to the barn's culture and natural surroundings... and will truly be a piece of art created by our community, for our community."

The project will begin with a public survey to choose the final mural design in May and June, with registration open and painting kits distributed in July and August, and painting of the tiles in September and October. The layout will be done over the winter and spring, followed by installation on or near the barn next summer with "the goal of unveiling the completed mural Oct. 15 of 2026 during a community-wide centennial celebration."

As for council's part, Brown explained that EVAC has applied for grant funding through Community Anniversaries – Building Communities through Arts and Heritage, with a condition of the grant requiring confirmation of municipal funding or in-kind support. To fulfill that, organizers are asking for a letter of support rather than additional funding, an ask that passed unanimously.
