91´ó»ÆѼ's dirtiest dog will be crowned at the sixth annual Dirty Mutter obstacle course race, held at the Rescue Ranch Society on June 22.
The obstacle course event is inspired by 'Tough Mudder' races, which features slippery mud sections, obstacles and hills. At the Black Mountain-based animal sanctuary, there will also be a lot of fur.
The race is welcome to people and pups of all ability levels, with a focus on having fun in the mud. Even those without a dog are welcome to join and can borrow a pooch or run solo.
The Dirty Mutter course is approximately 1.5 km of "pure muddy fun," said Rhonda Laturnus, the owner of the ranch and the race organizer.
"You’ll crawl, climb, splash, and wiggle through mud and obstacles that will leave you smiling from ear to ear. "
Laturnus said that while not mandatory, silly costumes are strongly encouraged.
In addition to awarding the fastest time to complete the course, there will also be awards for: muddiest dog, muddiest human, cleanest dog, best costume, best team entry and most inspirational participant.
The canine and human team-based race is a fundraiser for the Rescue Ranch in 91´ó»ÆѼ, a non-profit animal rescue that cares for all sorts of critters who need a loving home. The Ranch is currently home to pigs, llamas, goats, ducks, chickens and horses.
All proceeds from the event will directly support the helping cover food, shelter and veterinary costs.
The owner of the ranch, Rhonda Laturnus, has a passion for wellness as well as animals and runs her gym Results 4 Life Fitness at her acreage in Black Mountain. Bleating and oinks can be heard from the gym, as the barn which houses the rescue animals is only a short distance away.
Results 4 Life Fitness the host of the Dirty Mutter race and all funds raised will be used to support the animals at the Rescue Ranch.
The Dirty Mutter is currently looking for race sponsors, media partners and donors.
