VIDEO: Best boys teams crowned at B.C. championships in Langley

Three schools were first-time winners

It was the first championship win for three of four victors at the 2025 BC School Sports Boys Basketball Provincial Championships that wrapped up on Saturday, March 8, at Langley Events Centre to cap off the four-day event featuring 16 teams from across the province.

First-timers included St. John’s School Saints (Vancouver), who won the 1A Tournament title,  Pacific Academy Breakers (Surrey) in the 2A Tournament and the 3A Tournament went to the Windsor Wolves (North Vancouver).

Victoria’s Spectrum Thunder capped off the night with a second straight 4A Tournament title.

1A Tournament

To be the best, you must beat the best and the St. John’s School Eagles did just that on Saturday afternoon.

Facing the powerhouse program that is the Unity Christian Flames – the Chilliwack school had won 3 of the past 4 BC School Sports 1A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament championships – the Vancouver school etched their names in the history books, capturing their first title in program history with a come-from-behind 87-82 win.

The Eagles – the No. 1 seed – trailed for all but 3:05 of that contest and were down by eight points at 78-70 in the fourth quarter. But the third-ranked Flames went cold and were outscored 17-4 down the stretch.

2A Tournament

Buoyed by a dominant second half from point guard Judah Ashbee, Surrey’s Pacific Academy captured their first BC School Sports 2A Boys Basketball Provincial Championship title.

Ashbee scored 22 of his 34 points after halftime as the Breakers pulled away from the Summerland Rockets 80-69 in the championship game on Saturday afternoon at Langley Events Centre.

Ashbee was later named Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.

3A Tournament

A balanced scoring attack and a huge rebounding advantage helped the Windsor Wolves make school history.

The North Vancouver school had five players in double figures, plus a 55-35 advantage on the boards as the No. 2 seed upset the top-ranked St. Thomas More Collegiate Knights 66-58 in the BC School Sports 3A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament championship game at Langley Events Centre on Saturday.

The Knights scored eight of the first 10 points, but once the Wolves went ahead late in the opening quarter, Windsor never trailed again, leading for 33:18 of the 40 minute contest.

4A Tournament

With their lead down to two points early in the fourth quarter, the Spectrum Thunder responded with a 10-2 run, pulling away for a 81-66 victory over the Dover Bay Dolphins.

The victory gave the Thunder a second consecutive BC School Sports 4A Boys Basketball Provincial Tournament. It was the first all-Vancouver Island championship final in the 4A Tournament since 1978.

Spectrum led for the majority of the game with Tyler Felt scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds while J Elijah Helman finishing with 21. Harper Kopp – the Championship Player of the Game – had 15 points.
