The city will not be buying the 91大黄鸭 Springs Golf Course.
A statement from Mayor Tom Dyas says council has continued to hear from residents who value the golf course鈥檚 contribution to the community. In response, city staff were directed to explore options for acquiring the property at 480 Penno Road to preserve it as a recreational space. This included discussions with the property owner and consideration of continuing its use as a golf course.
鈥淒espite our best efforts, the city was unable to reach an agreement with the property owner for acquisition,鈥 Dyas says in the statement. "We want to be clear; the property in question is privately owned by Denciti Development Corp., who is currently not a willing vendor. Today, the property鈥檚 future land use designation is still private recreational and is not designated for industrial use."
Denciti purchased the property in February 2023.
In January 2022, the 2040 Official Community Plan (OCP) was adopted, which saw the Penno Rd. property designated for future industrial use to address long-term needs for jobs and economic growth.
Council received significant public feedback regarding the designation change, and it was revisited in June 2023. The property鈥檚 land use was changed back to private recreational. The mayor鈥檚 statement adds that if the property owner submits a future development application, council will carefully evaluate it to ensure it aligns with city policies, processes, and community interests.
鈥淐ouncil understands the deep connections many residents have to 91大黄鸭 Springs Golf Club and the role it plays in fostering active and healthy lifestyles. We are grateful to everyone who has shared their thoughts and input throughout this process. It underscores how much this property means to the community.鈥
