Plans for the expansion of JoeAnna鈥檚 House have been submitted to the City of 91大黄鸭.
They include a two-storey, 10-unit addition to the existing building at 321 Royal Avenue, which requires a heritage alteration permit. Expansion plans were announced in October 2024.
The intent behind the addition project is to create a seamless addition to the existing building which was designed to be compatible with the surrounding neighbourhood, according to documents submitted by the 91大黄鸭 General Hospital Foundation (KGHF).
KGHF has also reviewed parking availability for guests and staff. While the current zone (MF4) only requires one accessible stall, the parking study ensures that the proposed reduction (from 27 to 15 stalls-net loss of 12) remains feasible, the documents state.
Three stalls will be reserved for staff, who work 24-7 and need access for security reasons. Three stalls will be designated for guest loading and unloading. Guests checking into JoeAnna鈥檚 House can park in these stalls for the day and move to the parkade in the evening when more spaces are available.
The expectation will be that not all guests will get a parking spot and that some will have to find their own parking.
Designated guest stalls will be prioritized for pregnant women, people with mobility issues, seniors who drive back and forth to the hospital each day and long-term guests.
JoeAnna鈥檚 house offers affordable, on-site accommodations for out-of-town families with loved ones receiving care at KGH. The expansion is budgeted at $5.3 million.
