The West 91大黄鸭 Fire Department are celebrating a record-breaking year for their 27th Annual Holiday Food Drive.
The community donated $6,600 in cash and more than 14,500 pounds of food to the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) which are valued at nearly $60,000.
鈥淔or 27 years, our community has been incredibly generous during the annual food drive, and this year was no different,鈥 said Fire Chief Jason Brolund. 鈥淲e are so grateful to everyone who opened their wallets and their pantries this holiday season to help neighbours in need. Our community鈥檚 holiday spirit shone brightly when our firefighters went door-to-door in early December and continued with residents dropping off donations to fire halls throughout the holiday season.鈥
Mayor Gord Milsom expressed his thanks to firefighters and the community.
鈥淥n behalf of council and the City of West 91大黄鸭, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to West 91大黄鸭 Fire Rescue and the Greater Westside community for their incredible generosity and unwavering support,鈥 he said. 鈥淵our kindness and compassion embody the true spirit of our community, and together, we鈥檝e made a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbours who need it most.鈥
The donations will help ensure that the COFB can continue to provide support to those facing food insecurity.
"Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to everyone at West 91大黄鸭 Fire Rescue, for more than a quarter century of support for the food bank, including their incredible efforts during the annual holiday food drive, and to the wonderful Greater Westside community for their overwhelming support to fill the shelves for those in need," said Georgia Wiggins with the COFB.
