The Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant (RVWTP) was celebrated with a ribbon cutting in June.
The state-of-the-art facility had already serviced more than 19,600 residents in West 91大黄鸭 since November 2023, but the celebration offered members of the public a behind-the-scenes look at the plant. The facility was the largest project ever undertaken by the city at a cost of $75 million, including $16.3 million in federal contributions.
In November 2024 a group of residents called for increased transparency and better communication regarding water quality and testing at the plant after putting up with brown-coloured, foul-smelling water for months. There were also concerns over higher than acceptable manganese levels. The conditions were blamed on the lingering effects of the McDougall Creek wildfire in August 2023, and seasonal changes in the Rose Valley Reservoir.
Later in November, council approved spending $2.5 million to fix source water quality problems in the reservoir.
